The homes in the Walks were prefabracated in Camp Yaphank. There was no need for Cars.
In WW2, Observation Towers to look for German Submarines were built between Riverside and Edwaards.
Long Beach, and Lido Beach in WW2 was a Seaside Community with a Naval Station.

During the Korean War, The Niki Missile Base was developed near the Par 3 Golf Course..
.The Lido Hotel was painted Grey,when it was used as a Deimbarcation site.
Post 9/11, there have been rumors that some questionable people rented in Long Beach.
The Submarine Look Out Tower was built on Foundation Block

Unfortunately, the issue has beeen raised about Terrorists, using rooftops in LB to fire Missles ,at passing Planes.
The only other place German Spys landed in the US, during WW2 , was Long Island
The Nassau Hotel was used as a Military Hospital during WW1.
